What “artificial intelligence”?

The processes and promises that are currently being (further) developed under the umbrella term “artificial intelligence” are difficult to keep track of. In addition, the technology itself, which in turn is referred to with anthropomorphic terms such as “deep learning”, “neural networks” and “large language model”, is suspected of being incomprehensible. In the current discourse on AI/AI, the image of the “black box” illustrates the idea of a closed, almost uncontrollable autonomous activity, which nevertheless fits in well with promises and fears that AI will replace or supplant human power. The seminar will take a fundamental look at the discourse surrounding AI/AI and the technical conditions and infrastructures as well as concrete manifestations such as ChatGPT. TikTok, which was marketed at the end of the 2010s “as the first ‘AI feed’”, will also be one of the practical examples. In order to shed more light on this by no means abstract and closed “black box”, we will also be inviting guests who have been researching AI/AI for years.
