I attended the seminar titled “Climate Sound & Society: Exploring Intersections of Technology, Research, and Practice,” hosted by the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. This event brought together exceptional thinkers and practitioners from various fields to explore the use of new sound recording technologies and creative sound experiments in understanding changing ecosystems. By merging environmental science with journalism, storytelling, media arts, and curatorial practices, the seminar highlighted the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance research impact and reach broader audiences.
The seminar was the first step in building an interdisciplinary community that includes sound-based scientists, technologists, scholars, archivists, storytellers, data journalists, curators, and media artists under metaLABs new Institute for Climate Sound & Society. The goal is to foster innovative ideas, develop new research tools, and shift public culture's focus away from humans. This collaborative effort aims to expand the impact of research and unlock new creative potential.
